The Emory Law SJD degree program is designed for those seeking careers as teachers and scholars of the law. It is a highly selective program open only to applicants who possess a distinguished academic record in law, show promise of outstanding scholarship, and demonstrate potential for completing a scholarly dissertation of high quality. Open to: US graduates with both a JD and an LLM; Foreign law graduates with a first law degree from a foreign university and an LLM from an American law school. Prior to applying, all prospective students interested in the SJD program must first contact the Assistant Dean of Graduate Programs at Emory Law. This initial consultation will help determine if there is a good fit between the Emory SJD program and the prospective student.

SJD candidates must have a first degree in law that allows them to practice law in their home country and an LLM degree from a US institution. Other language requirements are the minimum score of TOEFL paper based test is 600 and computer based test is 250.
