The Master of Accounting programme at HKU Business School offers three streams and provide students the option to choose according to their interests and career aspirations. Students may choose to concentrate on one of three streams: 1) Accounting Analytics and Big Data Stream; 2) Financial Reporting and Valuation Stream; 3) Strategic Management and Corporate Governance Stream. They may also consider double concentrating if there are any two they are particularly passionate about. Our comprehensive curriculum is accredited by ACCA, CPA Australia, CIMA and HKICPA, and students on this programme benefit from our professional partnership with ACCA and KPMG. The programme explores theories on the importance of accounting roles in executive decisions, preparing you to be professional accountants, financial experts and future business leaders. Through exploring analytics and big data in accounting, students will learn how to take insights and information.

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Accounting programme, a candidate must:

  • Hold a recognised degree or equivalent;
  • Obtain statements from two referees, regarding suitability for the programme; and
  • Obtain a TOEFL/IELTS* score if you are not from an English-medium university.
    Minimum score requirement: TOEFL: 80 | IELTS: 6 (with no subtest below 5.5)  TOEFL iBT® Home Edition and IELTS online tests are not accepted.

GMAT/GRE scores are not required, but candidates with a good GMAT/GRE scores or possessing a business Bachelor’s degree or have accounting-related work experience will be favourably considered.

In general, applicants are not required to attend an interview during the admissions process.

*School codes for test score reports:

  • TOEFL: 9671 | GRE: 2482 | HKU Master of Accounting GMAT: FS2-WL-21

TOEFL and IELTS score reports are valid for two years only. GMAT score reports are valid for five years. For example, if you submit your application form on October 2, 2020, then only the report of the TOEFL/IELTS test taken after October 1, 2018 is considered valid. Also, please make sure you arrange to get the official test report to us in time as the test authorities may not issue your report when the test result has expired.
