In L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University together with the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan a unique system of training specialists in the field of nuclear physics and nuclear technologies is organized. The International Department of Nuclear Physics, New Materials and Technologies (IDNPNMaT) was established in ENU together with the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR, Dubna, Russia) and the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP as a part of NNC RK, Almaty, Kazakhstan). The department was established on the basis of the Memorandum of June 1, 2007 "On the Establishment of an International Educational Consortium" and the joint order of the ENU, JINR and INP "On the Establishment of the International Department of Nuclear Physics, New Materials and Technologies" dated July 9, 2008 and operates on the basis of the order of July 9, 2008.


The purpose of the Department is to jointly train specialists in the field of nuclear physics and new nano- and radiation technologies using the capabilities of the Heavy Ion Accelerator DC-60 and ENU Engineering Laboratory, as well as to conduct scientific research in these areas with JINR and INP.


The International Department of Nuclear Physics, New Materials and Technologies has a modern research base in the field of nuclear physics and new materials and conducts training in the following areas:

  • 7M05305 – master program on specialty «Nuclear Physics»;
  • 7M07140 – master program on specialty «Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies»;
  • 7M05308 – master program on specialty «Medical Physics»;

ENU offers Bachelor's programs in Engineering, Natural Sciences, Art & Humanities Social Sciences Physical Sciences at 13 faculties. 

Classes are taught in Kazakh, Russian, English, Chinese, French, German and Turkish languages. The students have the opportunity to study in university-partner in the framework of academic mobility program

The students have unique opportunity to attend classes of outstanding professors, including Nobel prize winners, and to hear speeches of famous political leaders.

ENU offers 68 Master's degree programs and 38 PhD programs in Engineering, Natural Sciences, Art & Humanities, Social Sciences, and  Physical Sciences.

The duration for Master Degree – 1, 1,5 and 2 years. For PhD – 3 years.  

The classes are taught in Kazakh, Russian, English languages.

ENU prepares specialists for Space, Radio Engineering, Biotechnology, Heat Engineering and Construction industry by the special program designed with experts from Middle East Technical University (Turkey), Berlin Technical University (Germany), Brno University of Technology (Czech Republic), 

The students practice their skills in well-equipped research laboratories and centers and have an internship in universities-partners, like University of Texas Rio Grand Valley, METU, Berlin Technical University, University of York, etc.

Postgraduate students can apply for various international funding to support the research.

For postgraduate students, ENU offers 23 double-diploma programs, including the unique program with University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in "Astrophysics".

The PhD students of Mathematics have the opportunity to obtain a diploma from Lulea University of Technology (Sweden), Frei University of Berlin (Germany), University of Padova (Italy). 

Our students have unique opportunity to attend classes of outstanding professors, including Nobel prize winners, prominent professors from universities of Korea, Japan, Germany, USA, UK, etc.

The alumni of ENU are highly demanded in key governmental, business structures of Kazakhstan.
