Psychology is a fascinating, multi-disciplinary subject covering all aspects of human behaviour. It is concerned with individual psychological processes and the social context of how we think and interact with the world around us. Psychologists use scientific methods, such as observation, experiments and statistical analysis to explore all aspects of our behaviour to understand how and why we react in the ways that we do. Our degree programmes cover all elements of psychological study from early childhood,neuropsychology and forensic to counselling, psychotherapy and abnormal psychology. We will provide you with a thorough grounding across a range of specialist areas and interests ensuring that our graduates are highly employable in a variety of sectors. Upon successful completion of the degree and provided that you graduate with a minimum of a second-class honours classification and pass your Year 3 dissertation research project, you will be eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) from the British Psychological Society (BPS). This is the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist. Our department offers one of the most diverse psychology teaching curricula in the UK, covering the full spectrum including: cognitive psychology; critical, health and community psychology and both quantitative and qualitative methods. We have built a reputation for delivering challenging and rewarding programmes which have attracted many international students. Departmental staff include practising researchers, counsellors, forensic and community psychologists who all draw on their own expertise to inform their teaching and research. Academic staff in the department are actively involved in research which informs and directs what you will be taught. This research is supported by a thriving external speaker programme and large numbers of postgraduate students. The BSc(Hons)Psychology with Foundation Year provides a route onto a degree if you don’t have the qualifications but have the ability to study a degree. Features and benefits of this course include: This degree progamme is accredited by the BPS, which means that providing students graduate from your Psychology course here at Manchester Met with a minimum of a 2:2 honours classification and you pass your dissertation research project, you will be eligible for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) from the BPS. Psychology is taught in the new Brooks building which provides state-of-the-art teaching facilities and social spaces for students. 97% of Psychology students go straight into employment or onto further study after graduating. The Department of Psychology at Manchester Met has been ranked as outstanding by the British Psychological Society. The Department of Psychology is home to the Applied Psychology and Well-Being Research Group.
