We understand that postgraduate students need flexibility, so many of our taught and all of our research degrees offer September or January starts. Many of our courses will consider applicants either holding or projected 2:2 UK Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, we also offer distance-learning options and short courses. We also offer career-focused conversion courses for those looking for a change of direction.

January 2024 starts - You can start some of our postgraduate degrees in January. If you’re taking a career break to study this could be the best option for you. Find out more about our January intake programmes.

Undergraduate

If you are from the UK or Ireland, you have to apply through UCAS. If you meet the following conditions, you may choose to apply through UCAS or directly on our website:

  • You are NOT from the UK or Ireland
  • You do NOT pay home fee (i.e. you pay international or special EU fee)
  • You have never used UCAS AND you do not intend to use UCAS in the future

Please remember if you are eligible and intend to apply directly on our website, you should NOT use UCAS at any point. Submitting your application to both UCAS and our website will cause issues to your application.

Late applications
A process called 'Clearing' takes place in July and August, running from 1st July annually. We will provide an updated list of all of the Kent degrees that still have places available once Clearing opens – this can give you another chance to apply. Postgraduate

Applications to our Postgraduate programmes are made via the online directly to the University of Kent. 
For international students, the deadline for applications to taught Master's programmes is 31 July.

Although there is no fixed closing deadline for applications to research degrees, we strongly recommend that you apply as soon as possible; no later than three months before your intended start date. The University has three PhD entry dates during the academic year: September, January and May. Entry to a Master’s by Research is in September only.

Our Canterbury campus has has fantastic teaching, study and social facilities including high-quality student accommodation, the Templeman Library, a sports centre, medical centre, theatre, nightclub, cinema, restaurants, bars and shops. 

Our Medway campus is based on two sites – Pembroke and The Historic Dockyard Chatham – and has exceptional facilities including an industry-standard newsroom, laboratories, post-production studios, music rehearsal rooms, and digital filmmaking suites.

The Templeman Library on the Canterbury campus, and the Drill Hall Library on the Medway campus both have extensive print and electronic collections, along with study spaces, different zones for different types of study and cafés. Students are able to use both libraries. The libraries are equipped with assistive technology, software, apps and productivity tools to enable students to save time, write well and study their way. IT facilities include hundreds of networked PCs across both the Canterbury and Medway campuses. Each library has PCs, loan laptops, wireless Internet access and printing and photocopying facilitie.

Accommodation

New first-year students who select Kent as their first choice are guaranteed a place in University accommodation. At the Canterbury campus, most rooms are en suite and many offer catering options, while all postgraduate rooms are en suite and self-catered. Rooms are available in flats, shared houses and traditional college arrangements.

At Medway, rooms are available at Pier Quays, a short walk from the campus; they are all en suite and arranged in flats of five to eight people. Pier Quays is managed by Unite Students, separate from the University, and shared with students from Canterbury Christ Church and Greenwich universities. 

At both Canterbury and Medway, student union advice centres provide help and guidance for students who choose to live off campus.

Support

All our students have access to a wide range of personal support services. These include the Medical Centre on the Canterbury campus, the Counselling Service, the Disability and Dyslexia Support Service, and a multi-faith Chaplaincy team. We also provide comprehensive academic support facilities, including the Student Learning Advisory Service, which provides free study support and advice.

Student life

There's so much more to university than lectures and seminars. At Kent you can join a student society, take up a new sport, immerse yourself in the music scene or undertake volunteering to boost your career prospects. 

Sport and fitness: We are committed to a ‘sport for all’ philosophy and encourage you to be more active, get fit and have fun whilst at Kent. Whether you’re a recreational user or a serious athlete, our dedicated sports development team and fully-qualified health and fitness instructors are on hand to help. Generous sports scholarships are also available. 

Arts and culture: Enjoy the very latest in film, theatre, art, music, history and dance at our on-campus cinema and Gulbenkian arts centre. You can also get involved in student-created productions and events. 

Musical community: Music is a big part of the Kent experience. Students of all subjects can get involved in a wide range of extra-curricular music activities and there are even opportunities to perform in the spectacular surroundings of Canterbury Cathedral. Music Performance Scholarships are available to talented instrumentalists and singers. 

Clubs and societies: Share your interests and make lifelong friends from around the world. A wide range of sporting, performance, cultural, faith and special interest groups are available and you could even establish your own society. There are also opportunities for volunteering and fundraising and to work for Kent Union’s TV and radio stations. 

Have fun on a global scale: With our truly international community – over 159 nationalities are represented by our students – you’ll have the chance to celebrate festivals such as Holi, Thanksgiving and Chinese New Year with students from across the world.
