QS BI Norwegian Business School Scholarship: 2019 Winner

QS BI Norwegian Business School Scholarship: 2019 Winner main image

We're pleased to announce that one of the winners of the 2019 QS BI Norwegian Business School Scholarship is Laura Kerkmann.

The scholarship, offered in partnership with BI Norwegian Business School, covers 100 percent of tuition fees for the first year of MSc studies. Based on academic performance, it can then be renewed for your second year. Applicants must have been successfully admitted onto a full-time MSc program at the school, demonstrate academic excellence through their GPA/test scores/coursework, and submit a scholarship essay. They must also have attended a QS World Grad School Tour event at which BI Norwegian Business School was also present.

We caught up with Laura to learn more about how the scholarship has had an impact on her study plans.

What are you studying, and why did you choose BI Norwegian Business School?

I am studying Business Analytics. I have worked in an Analytics department before, but I wanted to enhance my knowledge in this field. Therefore, I decided to pursue a master's.

I chose BI because it has a very international and practical program with many hands-on courses. Furthermore, I was interested to live in Norway to get to know the culture and to get out of my comfort zone by living in another country in general.

Also, I was able to speak to one of the BI employees at a QS Masters fair and she answered all my questions. She gave me a good impression of what studying at BI looks like.

What do you hope to gain from your degree? How will it affect your career plans?

I hope this degree enables me to pursue an analytical career. I think that a degree from BI, a well-known international business school, will open doors. Furthermore, the network which I can build with professors, companies and students will help me in the future.

How did you find the scholarship application process?

The scholarship application process was very easy and transparent. I wrote a motivational letter explaining why I want to study at BI and how the QS fair helped me deciding what I want. I am very happy that I received the QS scholarship, which covers my tuition fee.

What was your experience of a QS event like? What would you recommend to future attendees?

I was very happy that I could ask all my questions directly to people from the universities. My highlight was that I could get a direct response to how likely I would be accepted in the universities. To future attendees, I recommend having a look which universities are present and if they are interesting. Prepare yourself and ask questions.

What difference will this scholarship make to you?

This scholarship allows me to completely focus on my studies. I enjoy being a full-time master's student and, due to the scholarship, I do not need to work part-time. I use the time I gained to work voluntarily for our student association and try to make an positive impact for the students of my program.

What advice do you have for other prospective students who are applying for scholarships?

First of all, apply! I know that many students think they might not deserve a scholarship or there will be better applicants. But I really recommend applying to them anyway.

In your application, highlight how the scholarship will impact your studies and what your long-term plans look like.
