The specific learning outcome of the Automation Engineering programme is to train professionals with a solid basic preparation who are able to perform technical management and design roles in companies where it is necessary to have a knowledge of sizing and creating architectures of medium/high complexity, automated and robotic systems, and automation processes and installations that integrate computer components and devices for measuring, transmission and implementation. It follows then that the automation engineer, as opposed to others from the class of information engineering, must possess good interdisciplinary knowledge in the sectors of automation, mechanics, computers, electronics and electrical engineering. Graduates therefore first acquire a solid knowledge of the methodological and operational aspects of the basic sciences and engineering, favouring specific aspects in the automation field but without omitting the general aspects; they are then guided through a process of learning and in-depth study of the fundamental methods and tools for the project of automation components, systems and processes in the field and with an interdisciplinary approach. Their preparation is rounded out and completed with significant laboratory experience, elements of contemporary corporate culture and an adequate knowledge of a foreign language. The graduate in Automation Engineering possesses knowledge and understanding at a post-secondary level in the fields of automation, mechanics, computers, electronics and electrical engineering, and attains a level defined by the use of advanced textbooks, which also includes the knowledge of cutting-edge subjects such as those regarding the use and design of automated high-dynamic machinery, robotics, the automotive sector and control systems and implementation systems based on modern, innovative technologies.
