This degree programme seeks to prepare graduates for work as food product and process technicians in food-processing companies (production, distribution, packaging, ingredients), public or private food quality laboratories, or the technical and operational sectors of the public administration.
The objectives of the degree programme are to provide the knowledge needed to assess the chemical, physical, nutritional and sensorial quality of food products, and operate and manage production processes in accordance with modern standards for quality and safety, business economics and marketing; as well as provide the skills required to make rational decisions about the transformation phases and processes that are most suitable for modern food processing and/or the supply of foodstuffs.
The degree programme has strong inter-disciplinary connotations, in order to provide the skills needed to work in the highly dynamic, multi-disciplinary food processing sector, with a view to training professionals and technicians capable of working successfully in extremely innovative environments that are subject to great changes.

Admission requirements

Admission to the degree programme in “Food Technology” requires possession of a five-year secondary school diploma or equivalent; the places available on this restricted access degree programme depend on the resources available. The number of students eligible for enrolment and the related selection procedures will be published each year in the call for applications. The knowledge and skills required for admission are confirmed by obtaining the minimum score, indicated in the call for applications, in the entrance exam set for this restricted access degree programme.
All students will be tested to verify the knowledge required for admission, at the same time as the above entrance exam. The test of the knowledge required for admission to the degree programme is passed if the score of the student is equal to or greater than the minimum indicated in the call for applications.
ADDITIONAL LEARNING REQUIREMENTS ANDRELATED VERIFICATION
Failure to pass the test of knowledge will result in the assignment of additional learning requirements, such as attending a remedial mathematics course or any other activities that may be arranged. These additional learning requirements must be satisfied during the first year of the degree programme and, in all cases, by the deadlines established by the University.
Failure to satisfy the requirement by the end of the academic year of matriculation will result in repetition of the enrolment for that year. Students who already have a degree or University diploma, and those who enrol for the restricted access degree programme following transfer from another University of Bologna degree programme or from another University, must nevertheless sit the entrance exam in accordance with the rules indicated above.
