On this programme, students will learn Mandarin Chinese alongside history, international relations, sociology or politics to enhance their international employability. It is suitable for complete beginners and no previous study of Chinese is required. This programme will focus on language and business, which enhance one’s employability and meet employers’ needs. There is a clear appetite for Chinese from global businesses. This programme provides dedicated modules to learn Mandarin characters. By the end of this degree, students will have developed a vocabulary of at least 1250 characters. Students will take part in interactive seminars, presentations and group work as well as attending lectures and tutorials. There are also opportunities for individual research and guided study. Each student will be allocated a Personal Tutor and will be encouraged to make regular contact with them throughout their studies. Personal Tutors are there to help discuss academic and, in some cases, personal issues. Personal Tutors can also often offer support by writing references for placement/graduate employment and academic research. Assessment is through a combination of written and oral exams, coursework, essays, translation tasks, presentations and an extended dissertation during their Final Year. Exams take place in January and May/June.
