The Master of Applied Accounting is a one-year program for graduates who wish to equip themselves with essential accounting knowledge and skills, integrated with critical analysis and business research capabilities, that are fundamental to decision making in industry, government, and private practice, and highly valued by employers. The program is designed for graduates with prior studies in business or economics disciplines and provides them with a strong knowledge base in the core accounting areas and a choice of capstone courses. Students with prior accounting studies can also choose to study advanced accounting courses, including specialist elective courses in accounting data analytics, auditing, sustainability accounting, and tax. Students seeking CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand accreditation are referred to the Master of Professional Accounting or Master of Accounting. This program can be combined with the Master of Financial Management in a double masters. At a minimum, all applicants must meet program-specific academic/non-academic requirements, and English language requirements. Admission to most ANU programs is on a competitive basis. Therefore, meeting all admission requirements does not automatically guarantee entry. 

Applicants must present one of the following:

  • a Bachelor Degree or international equivalent in a cognate discipline with a minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0; or
  • a Bachelor Degree or international equivalent + Graduate Certificate or international equivalent in a cognate discipline with a minimum GPA of 4/7; or
  • a Graduate Diploma or international equivalent in a cognate discipline with a minimum GPA of 4.0/7.0; or
  • a minimum of 10 years full-time equivalent work experience at ANZSCO Skill Level 1 in a field related to the program.
