French Studies (BA)

Learning a language opens a door to another culture. Raise your French language competence to near-native standard and gain the linguistic skills needed for efficient negotiation with French speakers, combined with a critical appreciation of the cultural values that lie at the heart of French life. Learn about literature, thought and film, and French politics and society. The School of Arts is an official partner of the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London. Opportunities for students have included a year’s free membership of the ICA, private views, discounts on all talks and events, free members' screenings and £3 cinema tickets on Tuesdays, up to 25% off ICA Artists' Editions and a monthly e-newsletter. Graduates can pursue careers in international organisations or businesses, education, translation, research or journalism. This degree may also be useful in becoming a translator, secondary school teacher, social researcher or journalist.
