This programme allows students to study intercultural communication while at the same time improving your fluency in a foreign language. Students can choose between French, German, Italian, Japanese or Spanish and, for most of the languages, they can start the programme at the level of language learning that suits you. Students will attain a good level of competence in the language, learn about the culture of the language-speaking area, choosing from a range of modules covering literature, film, history, visual culture and philosophy, amongst other cultural fields. For the intercultural communication component students will learn about how communication practices differ across cultures and students will also be introduced to communication practices in various international and work-related contexts. Students will have the option of focusing either on professional communication or on the mechanics of language structure and use. The third year is normally spent abroad at a partner institution to allow students to develop their language skills and their knowledge of the culture of the language-speaking area they are studying.
