Language and/with Film/Media (French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish) with Foundation Year (BA)

The BA Language and/with Film/Media with Foundation Year combines studying a modern language and its associated culture with film and media studies. Students will gain a thorough grounding in different areas of media study and an understanding of the ways in which the media relate to each other. Students will develop a critical approach, so that they can put their own and others' work in context. Students will also have the opportunity to study a number of cross-cultural modules which will allow them to explore specific themes across a variety of language-speaking areas. Before proceeding to the main degree, students will spend their Foundation Year preparing themselves for a degree in the arts by improving their study and research skills and gaining arts-related knowledge and understanding. Students will also have the opportunity to take a language module as part of the Foundation Year. Graduates can pursue careers in film and television companies, arts administration or education. This degree may also be useful in becoming a museum/gallery curator, arts administrator, higher education lecturer or programme researcher (broadcasting/film/video).
