The major in nursing includes liberal arts, natural, and social sciences, and nursing courses. The curriculum is designed to develop a student's diagnostic, therapeutic, and ethical reasoning in nursing practice. The graduate is prepared as a generalist able to care for individuals and groups at each developmental level and in varied health care settings. Many undergraduate nursing students enroll for one semester during their junior year in any number of study-abroad programs sponsored by Boston College or by other U.S. colleges and universities. They may also begin master’s level courses during their undergraduate nursing program. At the completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) for Registered Nurses.

Students should pursue a strong college preparatory program that includes four units of English, mathematics, social studies, and foreign language, as well as four units of a lab science. Such a program provides a solid foundation for high quality college work, as well as a stronger application in a highly selective admission process. Also they must hold a minimum TOEFL score of 600 on the paper-based test, and 250 on the computer-based test. Students applying from British systems must be enrolled in an ‘A’ level program to be considered.
