CityU offers two types of research degree programmes: Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). MPhil and PhD programmes are offered in all Colleges and Schools in a wide range of strategic areas to reflect the University’s strengths and to suit individuals’ research interests. These programmes consist of both coursework and independent research studies culminating in the submission of a thesis.
CityU provides a modern teaching and learning environment with the latest educational technology to support high-quality teaching and research activities. We offer studentships, scholarships, conference grants and other financial assistance so that students can engage in more academic exchange activities that are beneficial and related to their research studies. Through collaboration with scholars in different regions, students can bring their research skills to new levels. 
A wide range of facilities and services are provided to support students’ studies and recreational activities. Student residence halls are also available on campus to provide students with residential accommodation and to offer an avenue for academic and cultural exchange. The University also has an official postgraduate student body, the CityU Postgraduate Association, with membership covering both research and taught postgraduate students. The Association serves as a communication channel between postgraduate students and the University.

Professional Doctorate Programmes

Professional Doctorate programmes have both taught and research components. With an integrated curriculum of theory, practice and research, the programmes aim to develop innovative thinking and knowledge application capability to solve important strategic problems in their professions.

Taught Postgraduate Programmes

More than 50 taught postgraduate programmes in diverse and extensive subject areas help students pursue their personal interests, professional excellence and career advancement. Students receive an innovative, in-depth education mainly in the form of coursework while some programmes may require the completion of a project or thesis. Programmes may be offered in full-time, part-time or combined mode, and generally require one to two years of study, depending on the credit load requirements on individual programmes.
