The Doctoral Program in Environment: Human and Socioeconomic Dimensions makes possible theoretical and applied research in Spain on topics related to socioeconomics and the human dimensions of environmental problems and policies aimed at their correction, prevention and structural change, with in order to accelerate the necessary changes in the usual patterns of production and consumption of society, in a globalized world. In fact, doctoral programs similar to the one proposed exist in most of the renowned Universities of developed countries. Within the international context, this doctoral program directly articulates and enhances the research of the International Research Program on Human Dimensions of Environmental Change (IHDP), created by ICSU (International Committee of Scientific Unions) and those undertaken by the International Social Science Council (ISSC). A large number of researchers with proven experience are concentrated around this doctoral program, as evidenced by their numerous scientific publications and quality doctoral theses directed in recent years. Likewise, the academic and scientific interest of the doctoral program in the Environment: Human and Socioeconomic Dimensions, in force at the UCM, is supported by the high number of students from the European Union and other foreign countries (mainly from the American continent) who request to be accepted in it.
