The Health Economics programme provides students with the concepts and techniques needed to face the sector’s challenges in the 21st century. This programme is designed jointly between Erasmus School of Economics and Erasmus School of Health Policy and Management. It is intended for students who are interested in taking an economic and quantitative approach to health care. It is an economics-focused programme, dedicated to health care, which aims to provide students with the latest concepts and tools for economic and econometric analysis. This includes the analysis of the peculiar functioning of health care markets and the economic evaluation of treatments, policies or health care programmes. The programme consists of 6 blocks of 8 weeks. In the first 3 students will follow the 6 compulsory courses, focusing on applied microeconomics, applied macroeconomics and applied econometrics, but also on the health-specific quantitative tool of health technology assessment (HTA). The 3 electives in block 4 and 5 enable students to tailor the programme exactly to their wishes. They allow further specialisation in topics such as health technology assessment, global health, and pharmaceutical pricing. Students will start working on their master’s thesis during Block 4. This will continue until the end of block 6, which is devoted entirely to thesis.
