Behavioural economics offers insights to inform business and public policy, for the purpose of investigating the human and social factors influencing decisions made by consumers, borrowers and investors. The first term involves designing a lab experiment for one of the assignments on this course. Students can then test their idea by carrying out behavioural research from start to finish in ESSEXLab. Students are not required to have prior knowledge in economics to apply to this course. Given the flexibility of the modules on this course, students can choose to focus on specific topics. Students will explore topics such as:How economic considerations, cognitive limitations and psychology jointly shape human decision making; Theoretical frameworks and empirical predictions for environments where traditional theory fails to provide guidance; Markets and strategic interactions.
