Moral, political and legal philosophy have implications for law, and philosophers can learn from lawyers too in various ways. Students will study topics such as: Ethics; Political philosophy; European philosophy (including critical theory, phenomenology, and existentialism); Medicine and the law; Cybercrime, in this programme. Essex’s specialisations lie in commercial law, public law, and human rights law. This programme includes research seminars, reading groups and mini-courses that help students to expand their philosophical knowledge beyond what they learn on this course. Students will have access to a variety of philosophy and law textbooks and journals in the Albert Sloman Library. This programme also enables students to volunteer at the Essex Law Clinic where they can work alongside practicing solicitors to offer legal advice to clients as well as working on key human rights projects at our Human Rights Clinic. There is also an opportunity to join Essex’s Model United Nations society, which can improve one’s skills of argumentation, oral presentation and research
