Essex’s LLB Law and Human Rights develops students’ critical awareness of the nature of law within its social, political, sociological, philosophical, economic and historical contexts. Essex’ teaching are informed through its work with the United Nations, governments, human rights organisations and corporations all over the world. Students will learn about legal rules as well as the function of law in society, the philosophy of law, policy issues and law reform. Study topics include: Global distributive justice and human rights; Current issues in UK human rights law; The protection of human rights in the UK; Freedom of thought and expression; European human rights law. Essex specialises in commercial law, public law, and human rights law. This course is accredited by the Bar Standards Board for the purpose of a Qualifying Law Degree.
