The Doctorate in Sciences in Immunology is a research-oriented program, of a practical scientific nature, whose objective is to train human resources of a very high level, with ethical values, who generate, apply or innovate knowledge, or contribute to the resolution of problems. problems in their environment, with a vocation for research.


The postgraduate program in Immunology was founded in January 1967, with the participation of researchers Dr. Carlos Biro, Dr. Félix Córdoba and Dr. Jesús Kumate, attached to institutions outside the IPN, and Dr. Sergio Estrada Parra, professor of the National School of Biological Sciences.


It began with a theoretical and practical program, in which the students attended laboratories and a seminar outside the National School of Biological Sciences, with the assistance of the founding members and other researchers. The strong support of the Mexican scientific community consolidated this first Immunology Postgraduate course in all of Latin America. Evidence of the above are the more than 120 doctors, more than 270 science teachers and numerous specialists in Immunology who have graduated from the program since its foundation.


The diaspora of immunologists graduated from our institution extends to recognized universities, independent scientific institutions, hospital centers, government entities and companies, in Mexico City, in the States of the Mexican Republic and abroad.


During the forty-two years since its founding, the syllabus has been constantly updated in response to the explosive advancement of science. Likewise, the researchers carry out cutting-edge projects, supported by a budget from the IPN and various national and foreign institutions. Additionally, the equipment infrastructure and its bibliographic collection guarantee the feasibility of the projects in which students are involved to carry out their degree theses.
