About University

For more than 50 years, La Trobe University has provided a pathway to success for people from all walks of life, and continues to transform the lives of individuals and communities.

Of all Australian universities, La Trobe is the most successful at combining accessibility with excellence. We’ve worked hard to develop a global reputation, expanding our reach to seven campuses across Victoria and New South Wales, and producing world-class research that addresses the major issues of our time. We have a 5 star QS rating for world-standard facilities, teaching and research, as well as innovation, inclusiveness and internationalisation.

We have a long tradition of public scholarship on the issues that matter. Our alumni community has experienced extraordinary success in government, industry and not-for-profit organisations. From judges and politicians to scientists and entrepreneurs, we’ve educated some of the world’s best.

As the digital economy and job landscape evolves, we’re changing with it. We collaborate with industry to deliver a ground-breaking Career Ready Advantage Award program and innovative new courses in emerging fields.

Our curriculum is constantly updated to keep pace with workplace practice. Our collaborative curriculum design and development processes merge student and industry input, then combine academic discipline with learning and teaching expertise.

We support our students to thrive in their academic, work and personal lives through targeted programs and support for emotional and physical wellbeing. We hold activities where students can have fun and build their connections in communities as diverse as sporting clubs, volunteering programs, student clubs and social functions. And we offer scholarship and sponsorship opportunities across each of our campuses for domestic and international students.

The higher education environment is changing rapidly, and La Trobe is uniquely placed to excel. By leveraging our strengths and ethos of excellence and social inclusion, we’re redefining what it means to be a great university for the 21st century.
