This three-year programme offers students a unique chance to gain a specialised qualification in a rich, valuable area of knowledge, plus the freedom to tailor the programme to their own ambitions. Graduates of Dutch Studies are fluent in the language, mind-set and culture of the Netherlands, preparing them to work in international organisations with Dutch connections; in governmental or NGOs; in Dutch educational programmes in their own country; or further master's level study. The three-year Dutch Studies programme offers you the opportunity to focus intensely upon gaining academic-level Dutch language abilities while acquiring a broad education in Dutch culture, art, history, and society. As you live and study in the Netherlands, communicating with native speakers on a daily basis, you quickly gain fluency – not just in language, but in cultural nuances as well.

The minimum requirement for admission to any bachelor’s programme at Leiden University is a diploma that is at least equal to the Dutch pre-university diploma (VWO). Our Admissions Office has drawn up a list of common non-Dutch diplomas that generally meet the minimum academic requirements. If your diploma does not meet these requirements you may still be admitted, on condition that you sit additional exams. You will receive more information once we have received your application for admission.
