Renewed efforts are needed to improve maternal and newborn health and reduce the burden of preventable maternal and newborn deaths including stillbirths.  This focus is especially relevant in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where the vast majority of these deaths occur. Mothers and their newborns should expect to receive care that is respectful, timely and evidence based.  The Postgraduate Certificate Maternal Newborn Health (PgCertMNH) aims to strengthen the capacity of health professionals working in maternal and newborn health to provide evidence-based interventions to improve quality of care and to reduce maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality in these settings.

The PgCertMNH is designed as a part-time course and will be delivered virtually; 80% asynchronized. Students will learn together with peers from across the globe to develop skills for studying and networking online as well as the knowledge, skills, and competencies to support interventions in maternal and newborn health throughout the health sector from community engagement to national and global policy.

The PgCertMNH is awarded by the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and will be taught and assessed at master’s degree (FHEQ Level 7). Students will be expected to dedicate about 15 hours per week to their learning during the modules. This includes time spent on lectures, engaging with online content flexibly, preparation, tutorials, formative assignments, independent study, and marked assessments.
