This is a four year degree which includes a placement year in industry. The placement year will be taken in year three, where you work for a year in industry before returning to University to complete your final year of study. This degree, which assumes no previous knowledge of the subject, combines accountancy, finance and economics with business disciplines. Alongside the development of your accounting and finance knowledge, there is a strong focus on developing your management skills. This ensures that when you graduate, you have the high-level transferable skills employers seek. If you are looking to become a qualified chartered accountant, this course can give you a great head start. We have designed this course to achieve exemptions from ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS and CIMA. This ensures that you will have fewer professional exams to sit once you have graduated and you will qualify in a much shorter time. We are the largest public sector accountancy training provider in the North West of England, so this degree enjoys a good reputation within professional circles and is well regarded by employers. Our Business School is an approved platinum learning provider for the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA). Currently, we offer a range of professional and postgraduate programmes that enable you to complete your ACCA examinations if you wish to continue your accountancy training upon graduating. Successful completion of this degree also qualifies you for exemptions to some of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) professional examinations. As an accounting and finance student, you will have complimentary access to Bloomberg, the leading global platform used by the world’s leading banks, corporations and government agencies for news, data, analytics and research. Staff are student-focused and have developed innovative teaching techniques involving the use of Moodle, podcasting and videos. You will also have the opportunity to become a member of our student-led Accounting, Finance and Economics Society - awarded best UK student society by PQ Magazine in 2014. The Faculty of Business and Law hosts two Professional Development Weeks annually. Free and open to all students, this includes a festival of skills-development activities, practical support in developing your CV and employability skills, and the opportunity to network with actively recruiting graduate employers. There is also an annual Accounting, Finance and Economics Employer Cafe hosted on campus where you can meet with actively recruiting employers and build your professional network of industry contacts. You will be taught in the Business School’s state of the art building on All Saints Campus in central Manchester. We are a double-accredited business school, having gained the prestigious AACSB accreditation to provide excellence in global management education. This places us among the top 5% of business schools worldwide to have secured this accreditation and means your degree is internationally recognised. A placement year can be an excellent opportunity to acquire high quality work experience and structured on–the-job training whilst earning a salary. The placement must be a minimum of 36 weeks but it will usually last for 12 months and takes place after your second year of study. We have an award-winning placement team, who advertise vacancies and can help you find a placement. The team has over 25 years’ experience of matching students to employers. They advertise over 1,000 vacancies each year, organise an annual placement fair where you can meet employers who are actively recruiting placement students, deliver CV workshops, provide one-to-one advice, and will conduct a mock interview with you so you can practice your interview technique.
