The M.A. degree is awarded by the Anthropology Department and admission is granted by a joint admissions committee made up of representatives from Anthropology and the Department of Social Studies of Medicine. It consists of Thesis Courses (36 credits) - ANTH 694 M.A. Thesis Tutorial 1 (6 credits); ANTH 695 M.A. Thesis Tutorial 2 (6 credits); ANTH 699 M.A. Thesis (24 credits); Required Courses (6 credits) - ANTH 615 Seminar in Medical Anthropology (3 credits); HSSM 605 Medical Anthropology (3 credits); and Complementary Courses (6 credits) - Two Anthropology courses at the 500, 600, or 700 level.

Undergraduate grade point averages (GPA) of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0-point scale.

·        GRE results – for international applicants only

·        TOEFL – for non-anglophone and non-francophone applicants

·        Writing Sample – a recent sample of the applicant's written work, on any topic (not necessarily within the desired field of graduate study), not necessarily previously submitted for evaluation or publication in English or French, and no more than 15 pages in length

·        Personal Statement – an essay in which the applicant describes reasons for applying to graduate studies and indicates qualifications, qualities, or circumstances the applicant feels to be significant. Applicants usually provide information about educational and professional goals, and discuss their interest in the desired field of study
