About National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT)

National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT) is the first and only public university in Taiwan that has a distinguished reputation for hospitality and tourism education. NKUHT has been ranked among the world's TOP 50 universities in the QS World University Ranking by Subject of “Hospitality and Leisure Management" 3 years in a row, leaped to 38th in 2023, advanced and remained as the top of Taiwan. NKUHT, established in 1995, located in Kaohsiung City of Taiwan with wide range of degree programs including Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. Degrees.

In addition to the training of culinary, hospitality service and tourism techniques, the National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism emphasizes its degree programs integration with internships, skill competition championships as well as prestige chef demonstrations. Meanwhile, the unique highlight partnership with LE CORDON BLEU which also located in NKUHT on campus. It is also the only university in Taiwan that collaborates with LE CORDON BLEU.

Most of the degree programs at National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism are taught in Mandarin. In the department of Applied Japanese, most of courses are taught in Japanese. There are English-taught programs, such as department of Applied English, the International Ph.D. degree in Tourism Management, 4-Year Undergraduate Bilingual Program in Hotel Management is 70% taught in English, and 4-Years Undergraduate Bilingual Program in Leisure & Recreation Management is 70% taught in English as well. 

Here are 4,437 students and 309 professors on campus currently. NKUHT has more than a hundred international partner universities covering 27 countries. Students frequently engage in international exchange programs as demonstrating a high degree of international mobility. In 2023, 73 students from NKUHT are going to Singapore for their international internships during semesters. Moreover, before the COVID-19 epidemic outbreak period, more than one-fourth of NKUHT students went abroad for internships in 17 countries across 4 continents. Furthermore, 4 core mottos of NKUHT as “Humanity, Professionalism, Entrepreneurship, and Globalization” as fit into "Smart Implementation; Chic Innovation” in daily life upbringing.

If you’re an international student who’s interested in studying at the National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism, you will need to submit the following documents:

  •  Two copies of the completed admission application form
  • Photocopy of educational qualification, verified by a ROC overseas representative office or local authentication agencies
  •   One photocopy of the official transcript, verified by a ROC overseas representative office or local authentication agencies
  • Financial statement and financial guarantee statement, verified by a ROC representative office
  • Photocopy of passport or other proof of nationality
  • Study plan
  • TOCFL test, SAT Subject Test in Chinese with listening result
  • Photocopy of supporting proof of English proficiency

Counselling and assistance

National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism has its very own professional student counselling team who provide mental health education classes, offer professional counselling, as well as several other services.
In addition, the university closely monitors students’ attendance and grades in order to assist with their learning progress. There is an advisor supervision system where teaching staff can review students’ academic performance and develop a teaching plan to help with the students’ learning and offer additional support should they need it.
In addition, students who undertake an internship out of school will receive visits from academic advisors to monitor their progress. Students will need to keep weekly journals and submit a report after they complete their internship.

Student life

Kaohsiung City itself is a vibrant metropolis, characterized by its friendly people and safe society. With its fancy malls, restaurants and cultural events, Kaohsiung is a fascinating place to both visit and live whilst it also offers a wide range of opportunities and activities for students to enjoy.

The city offers excellent public transport links and is only a 10 minute drive from Kaohsiung international airport.   

Due to the regulating effects of the marine climate, Kaohsiung is generally sunny and enjoys pleasant weather year-round.

When it comes to student life at NKUGT, it’s a truly international experience. Approximately 5 percent of students are international, representing a multitude of countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Australia, France, Paraguay, the US, Thailand, Czech, Vietnam, Philippines, and Singapore.

Student accommodation

Students have the option to live either on- or off-campus. The National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism has its very own on-campus student accommodation which offers safe, convenient and comfortable living. Plus, it’s only a five minute walk from the university campus, so there’s no need to worry about being late!

All first-year students are required to live on-campus during the first year of their studies, allowing them to become more easily acquainted with the campus and the city. It’s also a good way of making new friends!

Students who live in the NKUHT student accommodation have access to a number of amenities, including freshwater dispensers, a laundry room, and a local convenient store that’s located on the ground floor.


Within few months of graduating, 85.9 percent of NKUHT graduates were in employment. The other 14.1 percent were enrolled in further education, or in military service.

To prepare for the international job market as talented and qualified graduates, the National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism offers students the opportunity to attend and take part in career fairs, as well as domestic and overseas internships which provide students with real-life work experience in the hospitality and tourism industries.

Career seminars

The National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism regularly organizes career expositions and industrial recruitment seminars for graduating students in order to support students in their career development. In addition to career support and employment seminars, industrial lecturers, experts and alumni are invited to share their experiences with current students. Students will then receive support to help build their own careers.


e-Portfolio platform

The university has established the e-Portfolio platform, on which every student can keep a record of personal learning until graduation. From the personal portfolio, students can review their strength and weakness, and gradually work to find their career position. This platform will help them easily write up resumes, and create and market their personal image.

NKUHT Scholarship


There are scholarships for undergraduate students, Master Program students, and Ph.D. students.

Applicants can apply for it during the admission application process.


For undergraduate students, there are 3 kinds of scholarships:

(1) Tuition and miscellaneous fees waived.

(2) Half of tuition and miscellaneous fees waived.

(3) Dormitory fees waived. The maximum duration is for 4 years.

(4) Teaching Assistantship


For Master students, there are 2 kinds of scholarships:

(1) Tuition, miscellaneous fees and credit fees waived.

(2) Tuition and miscellaneous fees waived. The maximum duration is for 2 years.

(3) Teaching Assistantship


For Ph.D. students there are 2 kinds of scholarships:

(1) Tuition, miscellaneous fees, credit fees and dormitory fees waived. 

(2) Tuition and miscellaneous fees waived. The maximum duration is for 3 years.

VISA information

International students should obtain a student visa or entry permit at a Taiwan overseas representative office before coming to Taiwan. Two kinds of visas are available: visitor visa and resident visa. (1) Visitor visa

International students with valid passports or other legal documents who intend to stay for no more than six months in Taiwan can apply for a visitor visa.


(2) Resident visa

International students with valid passports or other legal documents who intend to stay for longer than six months in Taiwan can apply for a resident visa.
