Social anthropology studies humans as social beings, exploring the limits of their variety and seeking to uncover what is common to us all. Students will engage with the diversity of cultural possibilities in order to enrich their understanding of what it is to be human. Students are also expected to appreciate and respect the customs and beliefs of other societies, in the process learning to hold a powerful mirror up to their own cultural norms. Through modules such as Fantasy and the Supernatural in Japan, Anthropology of Art, Environmental Anthropology, and Social Anthropology Theory, students will explore the fascinating history and practice of social anthropology, culture, and change.
