This is a combined honours course, where you study International Relations alongside Philosophy. International Relations studies world affairs and examines some of the critical issues of modern and contemporary times, such as the changing nature of international co-operation and conflict; the impact of globalisation on states and societies; and the persistence of world problems such as poverty, human rights and global environmental degradation. Our Centre for Global Politics, Economy, and Society has three research groups in Critical International Studies, European Politics and Society, and Social and Political Change. Teaching staff are active researchers with strong publication records. Philosophy tackles some of the most exciting and fundamental questions about human nature and our place in the world, such as whether the mind is a computer and if it is rational to believe in God. You will explore the way we think and reason and the assumptions that underpin what we think we know about ourselves and the world. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the history of philosophy and contemporary debates, as well as the ability to ask challenging questions, reach reasoned conclusions and express yourself with clarity and precision.
