About Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi

Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi was established in May 2006 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) and Sorbonne University, as part of the Emirate’s vision for academic and cultural growth.

In December 2009, Sorbonne Abu Dhabi moved into its purpose-built, permanent campus on Al Reem Island in Abu Dhabi including over 93,000 m2  of teaching, recreational and accommodation facilities. This included a library, a 700-seat auditorium, a sports centre and a cafeteria.

The university is always committed to Abu Dhabi’s vision of creating a cultural and scientific hub and expanding its outreach to students locally and across the world.

Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi is a higher education institution that attracts the best students from the UAE and around the world. Established in 2006 as a result of an agreement between the Sorbonne University in Paris and the Government of Abu Dhabi, Sorbonne Abu Dhabi offers the very best in international higher education. Our students benefit from 760 years of academic excellence and learn on a state-of-the-art campus on Al Reem Island in Abu Dhabi.

Our degrees are issued by Sorbonne University in the fields of Sciences, Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences and by University of Paris for Law, Management and Economics. All our degrees are recognized globally following the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) and officially accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education.

In keeping with our philosophy of providing a world-class education, the university maintains a selective admissions process to ensure a rigorous academic experience and to preserve small classes for an individual approach to learning. At present, there are over 2,000 graduates from over 90 nationalities. We are committed to promoting dialogue and ideas between different cultures and fostering a close-knit community on campus.

Available programs

Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi offers 10+ undergraduate bachelor programmes covering Humanities, Sciences, Languages, Social sciences, and law delivered by permanent faculty based in Abu Dhabi and Visiting professors. All programmes follow the academic curricula defined in Paris, except for the bachelors specific to the Abu Dhabi campus. However, all programmes offer high quality education and answer the European academic standards. Graduates receive a Parisian bachelor’s degree issued by Sorbonne University in the fields of Humanities and Sciences and by University of Paris in the fields of Law and Economics.

·         For programmes taught in French and for students who are not fluent in French, they can apply for the   Foundation Year in Intensive French .

·         For programmes taught in English, students must show proof of proficiency of the teaching language. Please refer to the brochure of each programme for more information.

·         For the Bachelors in Physics and Mathematics, students may have to apply for the   Foundation Year in Sciences , depending on their level.

·         For the Bachelor in Records Management and Archival Sciences, students may have to apply for the   Foundation Year in Records Management and Archival Sciences , depending on their level.

The average tuition fees for students at undergraduate level are 215,100 AED.

Full and partial scholarships for international undergraduate students are available. 

International students should submit an application online if they meet the minimum requirements . 

Sorbonne Abu Dhabi offers 15+ masters programmes. These programmes are perfect for graduates and working professionals who want to improve their careers by learning advanced theoretical and practical approaches in their respective fields of study. All masters’ degrees are French degrees and offered by Sorbonne University and University of Paris and recognised in the UAE and worldwide.

Our degree programmes cover 18 (3 semesters) to 24 months (4 semesters) and are taught in the evening and/or on weekends, in consideration of students who intend to combine their studies with work. Our programmes are designed to promote practical learning experience through internships. All postgraduate degree programmes are taught in English, except for the Teaching French as a Foreign Language degree.

Our master’s curriculum is delivered by visiting professors from France and the UAE. All our faculty have achieved worldwide acclaim and impact in their respective fields through lectures, seminars, case studies, and workshops.
