About University
At Penn State, we believe that engineering education should prepare students for the competitive, global workplaces of the future. It is important for students to graduate with practical engineering experiences that will enable them to contribute quickly and in a meaningful way that aligns with the goals of their future employers.
Housed in the College of Engineering, the School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs (SEDTAPP) delivers effective engineering education and unrivaled research opportunities through active, collaborative, project-based, and professionally oriented classroom experiences. SEDTAPP offers a variety of programs that partner faculty, students, and industry in the study of real-life engineering problems. Our programs teach students to solve real-life problems with innovative solutions.
But what does that mean? We are designers. We are leaders. We are entrepreneurs. We are humanitarians. We are technologists. We are educators. We are researchers. We are engineers.
Our offerings are unique and so are we. We provide students with unrivaled research and educational opportunities. We encourage faculty to think outside of the box — in their courses, their research, and their service. We collaborate, across engineering disciplines, throughout the University, with colleagues at other colleges and universities, and with industry professionals, to constantly innovate and educate.
From the moment you step on campus, we support you in your journey, as you Design Your Future.
Many of SEDTAPP’s offerings are found on Penn State’s University Park campus, situated in State College, Pennsylvania.
State College, Pennsylvania, also known as Happy Valley, has a family friendly atmosphere, rich connection to education, and strong economy. The diverse population at the university means that there are a variety of cultural events, food of all flavours, and places to worship in all traditions.
Whether you are a nature lover or a fan of the arts, Central Pennsylvania has a wide variety of activities and events. There are several outdoor festivals throughout the year, including Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, which brings over 125,000 people to the area each July.
The area has many entertainment venues from intimate theatres to the large Bryce Jordan Centre Arena. For the outdoor enthusiast, State College is surrounded by beautiful mountains, and there are several state parks nearby. Sports enthusiasts can indulge in college sporting events almost every weekend or attend a minor league baseball game.
State College is easy to get around. There is a robust city bus transportation system that services the University as well as many of the outlying townships. The downtown area is very walkable, and the entire city is friendly to bike traffic, with a large network of bike paths.
Located in the central part of Pennsylvania, State College is within four hours or less to Washington, D.C., New York City, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia.
