This programme is aimed at public officials, government advisers, heads of public administration areas at different levels of government, and professionals from related careers. It seeks to provide the necessary tools to understand and design effective public policies related to the management of strategic natural resources and their relationship with geopolitics and development.
This initiative proposes a multidimensional analysis of strategic natural resources in the current international context, understanding the geopolitical and economic importance that they acquire in an international context marked by scarcity and population growth. Price fluctuations, the bid for access and control of resources generate growing tensions that can lead to conflict at the global and regional levels.
In Latin America, the physical endowment of natural resources is and has been abundant and has traditionally played an important role in economic development. At the present juncture, these resources acquire a renewed strategic interest with a view to the development of their economies. Likewise, certain resources acquire relevance based on the new demands derived from scientific and technological development.
The program aims to identify the main strategic natural resources existing in the region, understand their impact in geopolitical terms at the global and regional level, and their relevance based on the various conceptions of development. Simultaneously, it addresses the existing debates around possible scenarios of conflict and cooperation in relation to access, control, preservation and use of these resources.
It is expected that at the end of the course, students will be able to understand the complexity that the subject implies, with a view to developing effective public policies and that they can identify the actors involved, the strategic, geopolitical and economic aspects, as well as the challenges and opportunities. for the achievement of the sustainable development of our society.
