The Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil was founded on May 17, 1962 and began its first academic period with the Faculties of Jurisprudence, Philosophy, and Physical and Mathematical Sciences. In 1963, the School of Economics was created as an Academic Unit attached to the Faculty of Jurisprudence, during the Deanship of Dr. Héctor Romero Menéndez. Subsequently, the then governing body of the University, in a session held on March 18, 1965, approved the creation of the Faculty of Economics; the first Dean was Dr. Teodoro Arízaga Vega.

The Public Accounting and Auditing programme was created on April 5, 1982. Since then we have trained competent leading professionals who decisively contribute to society in the accounting, tax and auditing fields, which has allowed them to be placed in managerial positions in firms national and international, as well as in public or private companies.

Welcoming the legal provisions, as of semester A-2018, our career takes the name of "Accounting and Auditing", after the date of creation of the programme.
