Dietitians use their advanced knowledge in the science of nutrition to advise on appropriate diet, food preparation and menu planning to treat nutrition-related disease. Working alongside health professionals in hospitals and community settings delivering individual dietary counselling, medical nutrition therapy and group dietary therapy, their work contributes to the promotion of health, the prevention and treatment of disease such as diabetes and cancer, and optimal health maintenance. This course is accredited by the Dietitians Association of Australia and graduates are eligible to apply for the Accredited Practising Dietitian credential. APD status is a requirement for medical benefit rebates. Graduates can apply for membership of the Dietitians Association of Australia, the Public Health Association of Australia, Sports Medicine Australia, the Nutrition Society and other bodies.
