This Human Geography programme from Radboud University addresses the relationship between human activities and their spatial environment in a number of topical fields. It takes a critical, emancipatory approach to the field by engaging with the less privileged in society, whilst also trying to contribute to positive change and development in many different fields. Within the Human Geography programme offered at the Radboud University, you have a choice between six Master's specialisations:

Human Geography – Conflicts, Territories and Identities  

This specialisation is socio-geographical, addressing issues such as the influence of territorial belonging, geopolitical framing and social construction of others, threats and conflicts, including violent symbolism. Human Geography - Economic Geography At the Human Geography - Economic Geography programme at Radboud University you study globalisation, spatial inequality, innovation and the future of the capitalist system. You will learn to understand mainstream and more alternative economic perspectives, to provide answers to the question why place matters so much in economic development, and how economic strengths of places can be encouraged.

Human Geography - Europe - Borders, Identity and Governance

This Human Geography - Europe - Borders, Identity and Governance programme at Radboud University teaches you the value and workings of the EU within the social and geopolitical developments both in the EU and in Europe’s relation to rest of the world. This specialisation is multidisciplinary and includes fields like European Studies, Political Science, Conflict Management and Spatial Planning.

Human Geography - Globalisation, Migration and Development

At the Human Geography - Globalisation, Migration and Development programme at Radboud University offers you the opportunity to investigate the effects of globalisation and migration processes on economies, societies and resources in different parts of the world.

Human Geography - Cultural Geography and Tourism

In this Human Geography - Cultural Geography and Tourism specialisation at Radboud University you will learn to understand and interpret advanced theories and practices of leisure and tourism and the interaction between tourism and the social, cultural and physical environment.

Human Geography - Urban and Cultural Geography

In the Human Geography - Urban and Cultural Geography programme offered at Radboud University you will study how different actors influence the physical form of cities but also the way in which they present and understand the character and identity of cities, and how they make use of the typical urban environment in their daily activities.

Applications for both Bachelor's and Master's programmes open up 1 October. The deadlines are as follows:


Admission requirements for Bachelor's programmes

High school diploma
Your diploma must be equivalent to a Dutch VWO diploma or a higher-level diploma. Additional requirements may apply, for example, a diploma from an academic stream, a specific level/course, or a certificate in Mathematics.

Command of the English language
When applying for admission to an English-taught Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at Radboud University, you need to have sufficient command of the language. There are various ways to prove this, sometimes through your diploma or citizenship and in other cases through a language test certificate (TOEFL iBT, IELTS, Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) or Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)).
