The Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts first opened its doors to students in 2005, and 15 years on it’s the educational home for 3,800 students. Founded as an art and design school with close ties to Fudan University - one of China’s more prominent academic institutions - the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts (SIVA) also shares living and teaching resources for faculty and students with the nearby Songjiang University Town.
The institute consists of six subordinate colleges, focused on the following subjects: Communication Design, Spatial and Industrial Design, Fashion Design, Fine Art, Digital Media, and Media and Films.
As well as having full-time academic staff, the university also benefits from visiting lecturers and honorary professors. Guest lecturers in the past have included the Hollywood actor Jackie Chan, fresco artist Rainer Maria Latzke and movie animator Sing-Chong Foo.
