Skoltech offers 10 English-taught MSc programs:

MSc students are required to earn a total of 120 ECTS-credits throughout the duration of their program. This includes:

36 compulsory and elective credits

36 research and MSc thesis credits

24 elective and project credits

12 entrepreneurship and innovation credits

12 industry immersion credits


All MSc students are required to take the unique intensive Innovation Workshop at the beginning of the program.

MSc students can choose to take the three-week elective term Independent Studies Period elective in January.

Skoltech prides itself on its MSc studies because:

Each student conducts his or her own research as a final Master's project

Students participate in an 8-week summer internship at the leading companies in the industry

Skoltech supplements students’ academic training with intensive business courses that provide guidance on how to commercialize ideas and research findings

Students can attend major international conferences, participate in science and student competitions and work on your own projects and initiatives.

Skoltech MSc students are entitled to a monthly scholarship starting from 40,000 RUR (around 550 EUR) and health insurance. PhD students are entitled to a monthly scholarship starting from 75,000 RUR (around 1000 EUR) and health insurance.


Students can design their individual MSc learning plan and complement the compulsory set of disciplines by elective courses and projects from any field.

To apply to Skoltech, applicants need to submit the following materials

  2. Academic transcript 
  3. Motivation letter
  4. 2 Letters of recommendation
  5. English language test results (TOEFL or IELTS)

The Skoltech application process consists of four stages:

  1. Prepare your application portfolio. We will guide you through creating each document step-by-step, including your resume, motivation letter, 2 reference letters and English language test results (TOEFL or IELTS). To start working on your application, submit your information.
     
  2. Submit your portfolio anytime between January and July 2021. You will be notified via email when that stage of the application process approaches. 
     
  3. Take an online subject exam (only for MSc applicants, PhD applicants skip to the next step). There is no minimum requirement, but the better your results, the more chances you will have to get to the next stage of the application process. 
     
  4. Pass the final interview with the admissions committee. Every year, Master of Science and Ph.D. applicants from across Russia and around the world attend Skoltech's Selection Weekend. This year, the Selection weekend will take place online. During these days, participants go through interviews and an English test. Selection Weekend is also an opportunity for prospective students to learn about the latest developments in Skoltech’s research and innovation programs. Invitations to the Selection Weekend are reserved for those students who submitted the strongest online applications and received high scores in the online test.

  • Science: Landing PhD positions and continuing research at top Russian and international research entities
