The Master in Social Sciences was created in 1994 from the Master in Sociology, founded in 1984.Our postgraduate program is a consolidated program, one of the leaders in its field throughout the country and was accredited in 2018, for the second time, as an International Competition postgraduate program within the PNPC-CONACYT. It receives people from Mexico and other parts of the world interested in research and teaching in Social Sciences, who usually receive maintenance scholarships from the Mexican government to dedicate themselves to full-time study, as well as the support of around seventy academics who participate. actively as professors, directors and thesis readers, with doctoral level and mostly members of the National System of Researchers.
The training offered is based on the work of four specialized research departments of the University of Guadalajara itself, thanks to which the same amount of guidance is provided:
  • Studies in Social Development and Work
  • Latin American Studies
  • Studies in Communication and Culture
  • Socio-Political Studies.
The University of Guadalajara is one of the main public universities in Mexico. The Master's degree is based at the Los Belenes campus, in Zapopan, within the metropolitan area of ​​Guadalajara, recognized for its economic, social and cultural dynamism.T he admission calls are biannual. • An interdisciplinary training model, which promotes academic exchange between teachers and students through the development of research projects. Thus, the training of academics with skills for the generation of novel knowledge is strengthened.
• Since its inception it was recognized by CONACYT as a Postgraduate Course of Excellence, and since 2003 it has been registered in the National Register of Quality Postgraduate Courses (PNPC).
• Excellent teaching staff, with recognition in the National System of Researchers and the PRODEP Desirable Profile.
• Prioritizes collegiate work.

  • Certificate or Bachelor's degree and proof of completion of social service of the degree, which should preferably be in the area of ​​social sciences.
  • Accredit a minimum average of eighty with an original certificate or a comparable document.
  • Accredit the reading-comprehension of the English language with Level B1 of the MRCEL.
  • Accredit experience in teaching and research or demonstrate acceptable professional performance in the area of ​​Social Sciences.
  • Present and approve a propaedeutic course, whose modality, content and duration will be announced in the respective call.
  • Devote full time to the program.
  • Letter of explanation of reasons, whose characteristics and extension will be set in the call for admission.
  • Submit a research project, the content and length of which will be established in the call for admission.
  • Meet with two members of the Academic Board and obtain their approval.
  • Present the National Postgraduate Entrance Examination, or the one considered valid at the time, and obtain the minimum score indicated by the Academic Board as passing.
  • Approve the other requirements published in the respective call.
