The Master's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering offers an interdisciplinary study plan, aimed at the training of researchers, teachers, and highly trained professionals in the knowledge of conventional materials, and for the research and development of new materials. 
Materials science involves investigating the relationship between the structure and properties of materials. While materials engineering is based on property-structure relationships and designs or projects the structure of a material to achieve a predetermined set of properties. It is for these reasons that the development of new materials with innovative applications favors the generation of jobs in various areas ranging from extraction, transformation, research, modeling, new industrial applications, recycling and reduction of urban solid waste and later its commercialization. different levels. Due to this, the Master's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering is a research-oriented program with a school-based modality, offered by the Engineering Department of the University Center of the South Coast of the University of Guadalajara.
The duration of this academic program is four semesters (two years). The courses are offered in a modular way. There are four lines of generation and application of knowledge: Polymer Technology, Surface Engineering and Tribology; Modeling and Simulation; also Complex and Ceramic Materials. Obtaining the degree is through the presentation and defense of a thesis obtained from a product of an original research work.
Admission is semiannual, starting classes in January or August. The cost of tuition is 3 Measurement and Update Units (UMA) per semester for national students and 5 UMA for foreign students.

  • Have a degree, or degree certificate and proof of completion of social service, in areas related to the postgraduate curricular program in the opinion of the Academic Board.
  • Having accredited, with a minimum average of eighty, with an original certificate or comparable document, the previous studies, as the case may be. For foreigners, if the qualification scale of the degree is not over 100, the letter of equivalence of the general average will be necessary.
  • Demonstrate at least level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR) in the English language or its equivalent.
