The Pathology Program, registered with the Ministry of Education since 1975, has its origin in the training experience of researchers since the beginning of the creation of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of São Paulo, in 1912, when the specialty was still a new in the world and had among its missions that of giving a scientific character to medicine and of advancing knowledge about diseases through research.

The main objective of the Pathology Doctorate Program is to train researchers and professors capable of producing advances in the different interfaces that the study of diseases provides. As a result of this mission, the Pathology Program values ​​the entry of students from different areas of knowledge to carry out their doctorates under the guidance of our professors in their lines of research, no longer worrying about professional restrictions, but encouraging interdisciplinarity capable of generating new knowledge. This tendency is enshrined in this program and recognized as its great driving force. In addition, the Pathology Program values ​​and encourages the mentor-student relationship.
