The Master's and Doctorate programs in Interunit Bioinformatics at USP aim to train excellent human resources who can work both in research and in development and innovation, in situations that demand specialized knowledge in biology and computational methods. This program consists of several research units in biology and informatics at USP, covering areas such as the study of the genome, metagenomes, transcriptome, proteome, metabolome, structural biology, systemic biology, among others.

The working definition that the Interunit Graduate Program in Bioinformatics at the University of São Paulo uses to understand what Bioinformatics is is in line with the most inclusive interpretation of the term: Bioinformatics is the study of the application of computational and mathematical techniques to the generation and information management by/for Biology and/or Biotechnology.

In order to specifically meet the broad multidisciplinarity characteristic of this area, a core of basic disciplines was established, allowing freshmen in the biological area to level in exact sciences, and newcomers in the exact sciences area to level in biology. The credit program is complemented by more specific and advanced disciplines, which can be taken at any USP campus, to be defined according to the research programs of each student.
