The academic activities of the Postgraduate Program in Education (PPGEdu) of the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Ribeirão Preto of the University of São Paulo (FFCLRP/USP) began in 2011, when the first selection process took place in the Master’s Course. In the first full four-year period of activities (2013-2016), the CAPES Evaluation Committee assigned a Grade 4 to the Program, an evaluation that was reiterated by the CTC/CAPES. The growth displayed by PPGEdu in this period in addition to the result of the CAPES evaluation were fundamental to set forth the actions in 2017 and 2018 for the creation of the Extension Project for the Doctoral Course, approved in December 2018 by CAPES, after it was also approved and officialized by USP. In the first semester of 2019, the first selection process for the Doctorate took place, and the course began in September of that year.

Since its conception, the PPGEdu has assumed as objectives the training of researchers and professionals for higher education already inserted or who intend to act in the domains of school education and non-school education, objectives that were reiterated for the Doctoral Course. By the year 2020, 166 master’s degrees were awarded, and the program had 48 master’s and 30 doctoral students.
