The Medicine course at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP) is based on the references for training in health, from the National Curriculum Guidelines (DCN, 2001, 2014), which guide learning in the health system and for the health system. health, with the objective of strengthening and improving the health of the Brazilian population. It is also based on international guidelines for patient safety, professionalism and professional mobility.

Educating graduates with a general education, with strong humanist and ethical values, also modifies the logic of training dichotomized into specialties (Flexner, 2010), which disfavors the integral view of the human being within its specificity and social reality, and reinforces the importance of prevention and health promotion adopting the concept of multicausality in the genesis of diseases (Lalonde, 1974) and the social role of the physician as a citizen and agent of change in society (Frenk, 2010).

The Medicine course at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP), based on the curricular reformulations implemented in 2015, with a broad review of the existing curriculum and discussion of proposals for its improvement, recognizes the specific characteristics of the University of São Paulo and, at the same time, meets the general principles of the curricular guidelines defined for the country.
