With regard to undergraduate teaching in Occupational Therapy, the discussion process and subsequent approval of the National Curriculum Guidelines brought new formulations and references to the teaching of occupational therapy and, in this sense, not only the curriculum, but the methodologies of course teaching were rethought and gained new features. In fact, the faculty that works on the course at the Faculty of Medicine of USP (FMUSP) has actively participated in discussions that, over the last few decades, have sought to update and improve teaching in the area. Therefore, the training proposed by the course is always in dialogue with the most current trends in professional and interprofessional education, taken in a broad sense, and with more specific issues in the field of occupational therapy.

The Area has professors who coordinate research groups accredited by the CNPQ Research Group Directory, who participate in academic and professional graduate programs at FMUSP, USP and other institutions. Throughout its history, the FMUSP Occupational Therapy Course, the oldest in the country, has created and developed fields of action and innovative care strategies for occupational therapy in Brazil, which has had a significant impact on the formation of a portion of group of professionals who, anchored in the demands of the Brazilian social reality, have contributed to serving the population and implementing policies and services in the areas of health, education, social security, culture, work and social assistance.
