The Licentiate Course in Mathematics at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics at USP aims to train Mathematics teachers for the second phase of elementary school and for high school.

In this sense, we provide students with a solid background in Mathematics, including Statistics and Computing and mastery of the main concepts of Physics. In addition, the course allows for reflections on the role of the teacher in the teaching-learning process, on methodologies for teaching Mathematics and on pedagogy in general. We believe that a teacher's training takes place in all the activities developed throughout the course. The course has a flexible structure allowing the student to deepen in areas of mathematical knowledge or teaching.

The Department of Mathematics at IME is responsible for the course. 50 vacancies are offered annually in the daytime period and 100 in the evening period. The course has an ideal duration of 4 years in the daytime period and 5 years in the evening period.

Graduates of the Mathematics Licentiate course at IME occupy prominent positions within public or private education careers and have been successful in graduate programs in both Mathematics and Education.
