The culture of sound has matured in recent years. Throughout Europe and the United States, cycles of study and research centres are being created with the aim of studying sound, its qualities and expressions. The Lusófona University Centre Lisbon and the School of Communication, Arts and Information Technologies (SCAIT) also wanted to join the golden years of sound, merging the technological, communication and artistic areas that have been continuously growing since the end of the last decade into the same degree. The curricular structure of this new course is organised in such a way as to accommodate old and new subjects, as well as uniting the arts of sound with recording, reproduction, production and sound synthesis technologies. Subjected in urban life to a territory dominated by sound and noise, this cycle of studies aims to contribute to understanding the sound object of everyday life, recovering from history what man owes to hearing. This degree favours the place of skills, knowledge and innovation in close association with the cultural industries, research and the media.
