The Early Childhood Teacher Education Study Program (PGPAUD) at the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), Serang Campus, is an educational institution that provides education and learning for undergraduate students (Bachelor’s degree/S1). The PGPAUD Study Program at UPI Serang Campus was established on March 12, 2012, under Establishment Decree Number 1681/UN40/DT/2012. This study program is an integrated part of the UPI Serang Campus institution, operating under the auspices of the Faculty of Education.

Previously, this program was named PGTK (Kindergarten Teacher Education), referring to the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education Number 510/DIKTI/1996 dated September 24, 1996. This was later updated by Decree Number 60/DIKTI/Kep/2007 in 2007, during which time PGTK UPI accepted students for the Diploma-II level. Due to changes in institutional status, the Diploma-II PGTK Program was temporarily suspended in 2010 during the tenure of the Director of UPI Serang Campus, Prof. Dr. Sofyan Iskandar, M.Pd. It was subsequently reopened in 2012 under the leadership of Prof. Dr. H. M. Abdul Somad, M.Pd., and renamed the PGPAUD Study Program of UPI Serang Campus.

From its inception in 2012 until 2020, the PGPAUD Study Program at UPI Serang Campus was chaired by Dra. Nenden Sundari, M.Pd. Leadership transitioned for the 2021–2025 period to Dr. Yulianti Fitriani, S.Pd., M.Sn., under the directorship of Drs. H. Herli Salim, M.Ed., Ph.D. Currently, the program is in the process of preparing for re-accreditation, facilitated by the UPI Quality Assurance Unit, with the aim of improving its rating from "B" to "A" or "Superior" (Unggul).

The core studies of Early Childhood Education cover the areas of early childhood growth and development, early childhood education curriculum, management and supervision of early childhood education, teacher professional development, as well as learning and parenting strategies for early childhood.

The graduate profile for Early Childhood Teacher Education is derived from the Regulation of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number 16 of 2007 regarding Academic Qualification Standards and Teacher Competencies, as well as the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI) Level 6 (Diploma and Bachelor levels). These standards are elaborated into the PGPAUD graduate profile, which includes educators and educational personnel who master conceptual theoretical understanding and procedural practical skills related to the field of education, development, and care of early childhood. Graduates are also prepared to be managers of educational units in both formal and non-formal Early Childhood Education (PAUD) settings. Furthermore, graduates are expected to possess entrepreneurial skills and have the opportunity to pursue further studies at the Master’s level (S2).

Thus far, the PGPAUD Study Program at UPI Serang Campus has partnered with HIMPAUDI and IGTKI of Banten Province as associate partners. Partnerships are also established with various Kindergartens (TK) and Raudhatul Athfal (RA) serving as partner schools for the School Field Introduction Program (PPLSP). Additionally, the program collaborates through the Independent Campus (MBKM) Mandiri program with the University of Riau (UNRI) and the University of Jambi (UNJA), as well as with other universities under the DIKTI MBKM program.
