The Master's degree in "History, Languages ​​and Cultures of the Middle East" is fundamentally research-oriented; it also imparts knowledge with application and professional relevance. During the course of study, in-depth knowledge of the profiles:
  • Iranian Studies,
  • Islamic Studies or
  • Turkology
in particularly relevant research and application fields. In joint interdisciplinary modules, the students of all profiles are taught the general methodological basics necessary for later carrying out an activity with professional practice, in consulting or research. The content-specific profile modules qualify students in the selected profile at a high academic level. At the beginning of their studies, students choose one of the three profiles mentioned.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be admitted to the master's program:
  • Bachelor's degree in "History, Languages ​​and Cultures of the Near East" or a comparable degree from a German or foreign university
  • knowledge of english
  • Knowledge of French, Spanish, Russian or Italian
  • Depending on the profile, language skills in:
  • Persian (Iranian studies profile),
  • Turkish and Arabic or Persian (Turkish profile)
  • Arabic and Persian, Turkish or another language of the target region (Islamic studies profile)
