The Master's degree in Political Science is offered in cooperation with the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA) and the Faculty of Law and combines the internal and external strengths of Hamburg political science in comparative government theory, international politics, regional studies and political theory. In the core curriculum and in both specializations, the focus is on complex problems of governance within (regional, subnational, national) and "beyond" states (supra, trans, and international level), which the students work on theoretically, empirically and practically . A research module offers students space for individual research under the qualified guidance of professors. The Master's degree in Political Science is a research-oriented degree with two specializations:
  • In the specialization "Comparative and Regional Studies" (VRS), the focus is on issues relating to the comparison of political systems, taking into account region-specific characteristics. This also includes dealing with supranational structures.
  • In the International Political Theory (IPT) specialization, the focus is on issues of international politics and political theory. The focus is on the theoretical and historical analysis, explanation and normative evaluation of cross-border political processes and institutions
