The objective of the Ph.D. is to train graduates capable of carrying out high-quality research in the university, private or public sectors. Our students benefit from excellent training in the fundamental areas of microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory, quantitative methods, and theoretical and applied econometrics. The Department also provides them with a specialization in two specific areas of economics, enabling them to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in this area. Particular attention is paid to research methodology and the production of scientific articles.


 A solid training both theoretical and applied:

  • The Department of Economics offers competitive funding based on the quality of the academic record. Funding can be up to $20,000.
  • Job prospects in the university sector, in international organizations such as the World Bank or the IMF, in financial institutions and in consulting firms.
  • The possibility of leading practical work to help undergraduate students .
  • The Department is recognized for its performance in research on an international scale: one of the best French-speaking departments in the world and the 1st  Canadian French-speaking department.
  • Placement of students in the labor market.

Admission requirements

To be eligible as a regular Ph.D. student (economics), the candidate must:
  • meet the general eligibility conditions (section XX of the Academic Regulations) for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
  • hold an M.Sc. (economics) or attest to training deemed equivalent
  • have obtained in the 2nd cycle an average of at least 3.7 out of 4.3 or the equivalent
  • demonstrate a good knowledge of French and English.
